The Professional Writing and Editing (PWE) major at YSU is designed for students

  • who want to enter the job market with skills and knowledge useful for writing, editing, and designing useful documents in workplace settings
  • who wish to continue their education in the fields of professional writing and editing, technical communication, or rhetoric.

The PWE minor is designed to give you experience in producing documents valued in organizations, companies, and institutions.

Web Comm. ICP

Created in mid-2003, the Individualized Curriculum Program (ICP) in Web Communications leads to the Bachelor of Science in Applied Science(BSAS) degree.

The program has been designed to provide the student with a solid foundation in the technical skills needed for web site construction and in the writing skills needed for effective technical and web-based communications.

Grad certificate

This four-course certificate (12 s.h.) is designed to meet the needs of students preparing for careers as

  • technical writers and editors;
  • company news and information directors;
  • grant and proposal writers for schools, hospitals, nonprofit organizations, and fine and performing arts groups.

M.A track

The PWE track of the English M.A. offers students the opportunity to learn the principles and practices of writing for organizations, institutions, governments, and businesses.

Students in the program take courses in document design, technical editing, publication management, and language studies.

What is PWE?

The Professional Writing and Editing (PWE) program at YSU is devoted to helping students develop their ability to design, write, and edit documents for a variety of purposes. Professional writers and editors work in

Professional writers and editors excel in their use of rhetorical strategies for solving problems. They are good at learning how to write, edit, and design documents that meet the needs of specific audiences. They are skilled in the use of advanced technologies to construct both paper and online documents of various kinds.
